Woohoo! Christmas is just 4 days away!
During this week, many of us crowd our minds with last minute gift wrapping, cooking the perfect dinner, and making sure our home is squeaky clean for all the guests to arrive. With all the chaos that arises this week, I hope that we can all remember the real reason we celebrate Christmas! A story that I believe speaks truth into this week is found in Luke 10.
Luke 10:38-42, "As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
The sad truth is, during this week many of us resemble Martha in this story. Martha was so busy worrying about all the details surrounding her that she missed out on time spent with Jesus! Mary, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. As Jesus entered her home, she sat at his feet, disregarded everything else, and listened to all he taught. As Scripture says, Martha wasn't too happy about Mary not helping her, so she asked Jesus to instruct Mary to help her. His response was something we all need to hear this holiday season,
Luke 10: 42, “There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her”.
Whew! Not only does Jesus clearly state that the one thing that matters is time spent with him, but he also makes a promise that this is something that no one can take away!
So, as we enter this week filled with gingerbread house making, picking the perfect gift, and watching Christmas movies, don’t forget the real reason we celebrate. Take some time to sit at his feet and listen to all he has to say. Don't miss out on all that the Lord can bless you with this season!
Pray: Lord, thank you for the joy and love this holiday season. Thank you for sending your son in the flesh to sacrifice his life for me to live! I pray that with all the chaos this week, that I take time to reflect on what Christmas is all about. Amen!
With Lots of Love & Merry Christmas,
Georgia Zeleskey
