The Real You

The “Real You” is difficult to define. As we go through our lives such things as; events, conversations, and relationships shape us into who we are. We open ourselves up to others, share laughs, build up walls of fear, and learn lessons from our mistakes. We tend to sweep under the rug parts of our lives that aren’t as pretty and may be judged if shared. The truth behind this practice can be found in Luke.

Luke 12:2 The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.”

As we try to hide the real us and perform in a way that is pleasing to the world, we hide all the beauty and light the Lord has instilled in us. Even the ashes are made beautiful in light of what God has done for us! Your mistakes, hardships, and problems under that rug can be made into a story of strength, perseverance, and hope to those who may be struggling with the same thing.

Have you ever attended some sort of conference, team building event, or camp where everyone closes their eyes and the leader lists all of the ways that we struggle and whoever it applies to raises their hands? Although these types of exercises can be awkward, they are just what we need to realize we are not alone in our struggles. 9 times out of 10 someone in your school, work, or friends is struggling with the same things you are. Sharing that “Real You” can not only lift weight off your shoulders, but it can be an inspiration to others and point them to the God that made you a new creation! I encourage you to be YOU and go confidently into all that life may throw at you!

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for knowing me so deeply and loving me despite my sins. I pray that my life can be an inspiration to others and point them to you. I pray that I will not fear sharing my testimony and all that you have done for me. Help me be brave and open to those who need you most. Amen!

With Lots of Love,
